October 2018 Favorite Things

Remember when Oprah had her favorite things segment on her show and then everyone won a car? And how Ellen gives away her own underwear line to her audience? Yeah, well, we won’t be giving away cars and we don’t have a Big Blue Couch Coaching underwear line (yet…never say never, LOL); however, we thought it would be totally fun to start sharing about our favorite things once a month. I get to be the lucky one who starts this new monthly #FridayFun tradition on the big blue couch so here goes. I present to you, my October Favorites for 2018…

October Favorites #1: Flannel Shirts

You guys. I have wanted this particular flannel shirt for a year now. “So why didn’t you just go buy it?” you might be asking. Well, I’m a recovering shopaholic, so I’ve learned how to reign in that addiction which basically means…I stay away from stores until I absolutely NEED something. So I found myself needing a few things – mainly some button up shirts. And my red flannel shirt from last season was so cozy that I just wanted more of that in different colors. Enter this gem of a find! Not only is it the black and white plaid design that I really really wanted, but it’s also tunic length. What a fun surprise!!! Seriously! It’s super cozy and looks ah-mazing whether you tuck it in and wear a black jacket or you keep it long with black, ripped skinny jeans or leggings and a chunky black belt. Where did I get it? Old Navy. For reals! And according to the Old Navy website, it’s a Best Seller! So run over to your nearest Old Navy store and grab one (or two) for yourself!

October Favorites #2: Girl, Wash Your Face Book (and the Audiobook)

Girl…this book is not only the hottest thing right now in the personal development world for women, but it’s also the real deal. (I mean, Rachel Hollis if you are reading this, girl, you need to come have wine with my two besties and I on the big blue couch. Because you are a girl after our own hearts!) I’m not even finished with it yet, but I can tell you there are words that she has said in this book that have made me literally LOL and cackle! There’s also words that have tugged my heart so deeply that they have brought me to tears. And there’s an entire chapter or two…okay maybe more like three…that I needed to hear so badly that I actually bought the audiobook so that I could repeat the story while in the shower and getting ready in the morning. There’s a reason why this book is a NYT Best Seller. There’s a reason why this book is resonating with women worldwide. It is raw. Real. Bold. And it is needed. Get both – the book and the audiobook. You can thank me later.

October Favorites #3: e.l.f. Eyeshadow

Confession: I used to be a huge Urban Decay eyeshadow palette fan. Not so much anymore. Don’t get me wrong, their palettes are beautiful and long lasting. I just don’t wanna fork over the dough to get them anymore. Enter e.l.f. eyeshadow palettes. Much more affordable ($10-$12 a palette instead of $50) and the palettes are very similar to UD. I started out buying two of them to just try, and then I loved them so much that I bought two more…because why not? Pictured here are my top three favorite palettes: Nude Rose Gold (left), Need It Nude (right), and Posh Peacock (middle).

October Favorites #4: Aveda Smooth Infusion

Okay this one isn’t actually a new favorite because I’ve been using it for a few years now. However, I went without it for a month or two because I kept forgetting to get more, and boy oh boy did I regret that! The label says that it controls frizz but the real reason I love it is because it makes my hair super soft. My hair stylist is amazing and she knows exactly what this thick mop of mine needs. It needs this product! If you’re in the Bismarck, ND area, go grab it at Silo Salon – click here for their Facebook page. (And my hair stylist is Vanessa. She rocks!)

October Favorites #5: Chunky Marino Wool Blanket

This is another favorite that is something I’ve been crushing on for months now. I’m just super thrilled that it’s chilly outside so I can use it now! (Because, dude, wool is hot!) My in-laws got me this chunky blanket for Christmas last year after I dreamed about it for months. They come in different sizes – this one is just the right size for a 5’4″ gal like me. It’s super cozy. It’s also heavy as lead so it kind of acts like an anxiety blanket! For real. On nights when I have trouble sleeping, I go grab this and I fall asleep within in minutes. The best naps ever happen under this blanket, too. No idea where this one came from, but do a Google search and find one for yourself. You won’t regret it. Unless you spill – then that’s all on you. *wink*

Alright, so there you have it. Those are my October Favorites for 2018. I’d love to hear what your favorites are so feel free to leave me a note in the comments below!

Much love,

~Coach Mandy
