The Truth About Your Goals
How Your Perception Will Make Or Break Your Success
By: Mandy B. Anderson
All week long my ears have been ringing over and over again with one word. Perception. Specifically, how perception applies to my goals and the success of the goals I have for 2012. It all started on New Year’s Eve…
Yours truly spent several hours bringing in the new year with a different kind of party. A “planning party” to be exact. Yep, sprawled out on my floor with my marker boards, calendar, journal and colored markers, I said goodbye to 2011 spending time with God and dreaming about all the things I’d like to do in 2012 and the years to come. It was the best New Year’s Eve I’ve had in a long time! (Crazy, I know, but remember – if you want something different in life, you must be willing to do different things.)
So, I now have a list of 30 things I’d like to do in the next ten years, starting with twelve that I’d like to accomplish this year. I even put a picture of it on my phone so I can see them every day and keep moving forward. It’s great – but here’s where this pesky little word “perception” comes in.
This past Sunday morning I was listening to the Dani Johnson radio show and she said something that rocked my world. “It is time to invade your perception with truth!” During the two hour show, she spent a few moments having us journal about what our perception was in the following areas of our lives:
- Finances
- Marriage
- Health
- Clients
- Business Associates
- Family
When I was done writing, I was astonished at the words that spilled out of my very own pen. In many areas, my perception was this (vulnerability alert!): My goals of building a business were going to be hard; people (meaning my clients) weren’t going to want to hear from me; and that some of my goals (like becoming a mom) would even be painful before they were successful.
Wow! That really makes you wanna “Get Up and Go!” right? Yeah, not so much. BIG wake up call! So I had a little heart to heart, and realized that it certainly was time to invade my own perceptions with truth. Here’s what I’ve done:
- Every day this week I have told myself (out loud) that the things I need to do are going to be easy.
- I’ve spoken more Bible verses over my health, thanked God for the work he is doing in my life, and I’ve told myself (out loud) that being healthy and staying healthy is going to be easy.
- As I’m scheduling events and tasks for my book tour and Juice Plus+ business, I remind myself (out loud again) that the tasks I need to do are going to be easy, and that if I just get one thing done each day, I will be further along than if I wait and do it all at once “when I feel like it.”
So far, I’ve been happier, felt better, gotten more done, and even been able to have less stress because I’ve been training my mind to believe that things will be easy instead of hard. But wait…
Before you start to think that I’m full of crap and talking about “speaking things into existence and manifesting stuff,” let me assure you, that the majority of my battle comes from reading God’s word every day (it really is the most powerful book on the face of the planet) – reading it out loud and speaking it over my life; listening to it while I sleep; and also by reading other books and listening to audios that feed my brain with truth instead of lies. Reaching goals takes work – it can be easy and fun if we choose to make it that way, but it still takes work! It doesn’t just happen by wishing it into being (trust me, I’ve had that perception in the past and nothing has happened with it).
So where is your perception today? I encourage you to take a few moments and write down your perception in those several areas of your life listed above. Will you be shocked when your pen stops writing? Will you need to invade your perception with some truth too? It’s okay if you find that you will. To help you on your path, I highly suggest you listen to Dani’s recording about perception (click here).
The truth about your goals is this: your perception of them will make or break their success. If you believe that it will be hard to reach your goals, then it will be and you probably won’t reach them. But, if you believe that it will be easy and fun, you’ll get more done in less time and find that you need more goals to fill up your time with!
What perceptions in your life need to be changed, and how are you going to correct them so they reflect the TRUTH? Take a moment and share your thoughts with us at the bottom of the page.
Until next time…be blessed, be healthy, and be inspired!
